Like anything in your life, your faith needs to have a good foundation. You need to make sure that you are rooted in Jesus Christ. The foundation of your faith is just the beginning, but it is very important throughout your entire Christian life. Without the proper foundation, your faith will crumble as soon as a bad time comes along. You need to be able to focus and draw close to Christ when bad times comes, but usually that is when we fall and we lose faith.
The most important aspect of a good foundation is that nurture your spiritual life everyday. Prayer is amazing and is like air to your spiritual body. Without prayer, your spiritual relationship to Christ will quickly die. How can you expect to have a good relationship with someone if you never talk to them. Listening is also important to a relationship. Isn’t it? Spending time with God, while reading his word and letting his speak to you through it is another extremely important aspect of a strong foundation for your faith. Reading God’s word is like the water that a body needs to stay alive. We will make it longer without water than we will without air, but we wont make it very long. The last aspect of a good foundation for your faith is the one that I feel is looked over the most. It is spending time with God. I’m not saying you need to go to church five times a week or you wont have a good relationship with God. Not at all. You can spend time with God no matter where you physically are. Just make sure that you invite God to be a part of your everyday life, not just your Sunday’s. Spending time with God is like food. You can make it a week without food, but it is really unhealthy and you will quickly become very weak.
So all in all, there are three important aspects to having a good foundation for your faith:
1) Prayer
2) Reading God’s Word
3) Inviting God into your everyday life
I hope this helps you to reevaluate your relationship with Christ and to make steps into the right direction! If you ever need anything, please let me know. I will be praying for each and every one of you!
Luke 6:46-48
46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? 47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: 48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. 49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
